My Fears for the Flue

Over 60 people so far have been infected with a deadly influenza like virus. Mainly in Southeast Asia, where birds contact with humans is very close. This type of virus is known as H5N1, a strain of flue virus that acted in Hong Kong in 1997. The name H5N1 refers to the subtypes of surface antigens present on the virus: hemagglutinin type 5 and neuraminidase type 1.

This virus is highly lethal in people, but so far there is no direct evidence that can be pass from person to person. This is the major risk in a virus of this type. Human begins do not posses the defense mechanism to defend against this pathogen. It has being issue by the World Health Organization (WHO) that there is a substantial risk of an influenza pandemic within the next few years. This warning has estimated over one hundred fifty million people death all over the world in less than a year from the outbreak.

United States, Great Britain, Canada and other developed nations are stocking vaccines to placate the proportions of this problem, but the work is complicated by the constant mutation of the virus, which might become somewhat resistant to some anti-viral drugs, making these drugs less effective.

Now you see my fears, in percentage 2.5% of humanity is certain to perish in this major struggle. Economies around the world can collapse if measures are not taken. I don’t have answer but many questions to this peril.
